How are bicycle panniers and bike bags made?

The durability and waterproof performance of bicycle panniers depend on their entire construction: the base fabric and its coating, the joining method, the geometry of the base and corners, the closure design, and the correct installation of hooks, rails and straps. The name of the material or the use of HFW alone is not enough to assess the performance of the finished product.

We examine solutions used in the design and manufacture of bike bags. We also explain why two products made from similar fabrics can differ in abrasion resistance, water protection, stability on the rack and ease of servicing or repair.
